Feng Zhengjie
Feng Zhengjie (Chinese, b.1968) is a Contemporary painter, born in the Sichuan Province of China. He studied at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, where he received a BFA in Fine Arts Education in 1992, and an MFA in Oil Painting in 1995. Feng’s work is often compared to Andy Warhol’s (American, 1928–1987) screen-printed portraits of celebrities, with his use of unnaturally vibrant color and flattened perspective. His portraits—inspired by billboards—are usually massive in scale, and feature glamorous-looking women with wind-swept hair and full, red lips. The women’s eyes—considered a trademark of Zhengjie’s style—are mysteriously vacant and wandering, representing the artist’s critique of the emptiness associated with consumerist society. Feng’s portraits are immediately recognizable by their palette of rich red, electric pinks, and deep evergreen and teal. His work has been displayed in solo exhibitions at numerous museums and galleries around the world, including the Primo Marella Gallery in Milan, the Shine Art Space in Shanghai, and the Tilton Gallery in New York. Feng currently lives and works in Beijing, China.
